They're Baack.....

This morning I opened the door to leave for work and just happened to glance over at the plant stand (where the old dove nest still sits; it was a parsley plant) and lo and behold there was a dove nesting on the top shelf in my BRAND NEW mint planter. As I walked out onto the patio the male flew up right in front of me.
I like the doves being so comfortable to brood on our patio but it looks to me like they are going to take down all my herbs.
Damnit.

And speaking of Limo Man.....

Limo Man got to be a part of the motorcade to take former President Bill Clinton down to Dana Point for a talk on Earth Day this last week. He got to meet the secret service agents and was lucky to have photo op with the former president. This is actually the second time Limo Man has met Clinton and got to have his picture taken with him. What a lucky guy!

Thursday Evening

Limo Man took this shot. He was able to get closer than me and took a great shot of the baby and Mom.
Limo Man and I were both a little sad on Thursday evening when we got home from work and the doves were gone. While sitting on the couch we heard doves cooing outside and took a look. We saw one of the doves on the roof of the place next door to us. Then we looked up and there sitting right up from our front door was the Mom and one of the babies. The baby's tail is on the left of the slat and Mom's is on the right.

Where are the babies???? (Thursday 4/23/09)

Thursday morning I walked outside to see how the babies were doing and they were gone! The nest was empty so I decided I'd take a picture of the pot that they made their nest in.

Tuesday Update (4/21/09)

The babies are getting big enough that Dad will leave them by themselves during the shift change in the evening. Limo Man got up right on the nest and took this picture.

Feeding Time!!!!

The babies get fed with regurgitated food from inside Dad's beak. They start out low in the nest and move up to feed. It's kind of like watching a dance the way they move up and down.

The babies are getting big!

We heard a fluttering and figured that Dad had left the nest. I think he just wanted to give the kids some sun and fresh air.

You can see the little grey fluff balls better in this picture. These babies are already 8 days old and they usually leave the nest in 12-14 days.

Shift Change

Dad is on the nest and Mom just showed up for a shift change. Mom has been showing up just before 6pm everyday for the night shift. It was pretty cool to see them both on the planter together. It was even more cool for them to let me get so close to take this picture.

Dove Update

Thursday evening I finally saw the babies.
They're just little gray balls of fuzz at this point.
You can just barely make out a little gray body right next to Dad.

Happy Easter!!!!

Easter is a day to celebrate the beauty which Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead to give us.
I just happen to love flowers and these are some of my favorites. Since we don't have a yard I'm limited to pots on the patio.
We're so eggcited that the easter doves are coming! Limo Man noticed that daddy dove had half of an eggshell in his mouth. That means they're trying to get here. I'll keep trying to get shots of the babies but it's kinda tough. These birds are very protective of their young.
You can tell the easter bunny was here. He left a calling card on the front door!
Enjoy that easter candy too y'all you can start your diet next week.

Day 6

The way I figure it the dove eggs were laid on Saturday.
Today is Thursday and it should be day 6 of the incubation period.
Sunday night we saw the eggs after the male took off and the female didn't show.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we saw both the male and female at different times.
Hopefully we will see some baby doves somewhere around the 10th or 11th of this month.
We'll keep you posted......
