HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ALL YOU MOMS!

Speaking of Moms...It looks like one of the babies came back to spend Mother's Day with Mom but was surprised when Dad was here instead of Mom. Dad quickly took off and left junior to babysit.
Dad came back and the two of them caught up for a while.
I hope everyone has a great Mother's Day.
Here's a shout out to Jalene with her two beautiful daughters Quinn and Delaney, and to Marjean on her first Mother's Day with Border, and to Kari and little Gabi.

Egg count update

Limo Man came home late last night and reported that the mama was gone from the nest and that there were 2 really big eggs in the nest.
I have noticed that there are 3 doves who are hanging out around the nest and all they seem to do is poop all over the place.
When this next brood is out of my brand new mint plants I am going to have to do some rethinking of what to put there.
I mean really it's neat that we got to experience the doves having babies but enough with the bird shit already.

Only 1 Egg In This Brood So Far

Usually the mourning doves lay 2 eggs. This time around so far there is only 1 egg and it's a pretty big egg. Hmmmmm...I wonder if it's twins?
I did some further research and found that sometimes it can take anywhere between 1 day and 1 week for the female to lay a second egg. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what happens. This picture was taken at about 8:30pm.

They're Baack.....

This morning I opened the door to leave for work and just happened to glance over at the plant stand (where the old dove nest still sits; it was a parsley plant) and lo and behold there was a dove nesting on the top shelf in my BRAND NEW mint planter. As I walked out onto the patio the male flew up right in front of me.
I like the doves being so comfortable to brood on our patio but it looks to me like they are going to take down all my herbs.
Damnit.

And speaking of Limo Man.....

Limo Man got to be a part of the motorcade to take former President Bill Clinton down to Dana Point for a talk on Earth Day this last week. He got to meet the secret service agents and was lucky to have photo op with the former president. This is actually the second time Limo Man has met Clinton and got to have his picture taken with him. What a lucky guy!

Thursday Evening

Limo Man took this shot. He was able to get closer than me and took a great shot of the baby and Mom.
Limo Man and I were both a little sad on Thursday evening when we got home from work and the doves were gone. While sitting on the couch we heard doves cooing outside and took a look. We saw one of the doves on the roof of the place next door to us. Then we looked up and there sitting right up from our front door was the Mom and one of the babies. The baby's tail is on the left of the slat and Mom's is on the right.

Where are the babies???? (Thursday 4/23/09)

Thursday morning I walked outside to see how the babies were doing and they were gone! The nest was empty so I decided I'd take a picture of the pot that they made their nest in.
